Malaysian Food Adventures #18: Rakuzen at Oasis Damansara

Since it is the Lenten season, the meat free Fridays continue until Lent is over. The parents and I decided to have Japanese for dinner and we managed to catch up with my bestie too! We decided to have dinner at Rakuzen at Oasis Damansara because the place is so pretty at night, with lights floating on the pond while its surroundings are restaurants. If you haven’t been to Oasis Damansara, I highly recommend you to check it out. Back in the days when I was still living in KL, my family and I used to dine in … Continue reading Malaysian Food Adventures #18: Rakuzen at Oasis Damansara

Malaysian Food Adventures #7: Kampachi at The Troika

From its humble beginnings in Hotel Equatorial, Kampachi has risen to fame serving authentic and high quality Japanese food. To this day, Kampachi has branched out to a few locations around Kuala Lumpur. This Kampachi outlet which is located at The Troika will bring you back to its  much-lauded days at Hotel Equatorial. When we arrived, we were greeted by a wide selection of green teas. I never knew that so many different types of green tea exists! At the end, we settled for the Kirara Rice Tea (RM18). It was fragrant with a lingering flavour of toasted rice. To … Continue reading Malaysian Food Adventures #7: Kampachi at The Troika

Satsuki

Located at the corner of Subiaco Square on top of the train station lies Satsuki, the sister restaurant of Ha-Lu at Mount Hawthorn. With quality, beauty and attention to detail, Satsuki provides a unique and authentic Japanese dining experience. In Japanese dining, social interaction is often encouraged around the table by having a number of dishes to be ordered and shared. Sharing is caring. To start off, we had the Sashimi seafood and gari tempura salad ($14.80) which consists of fresh sashimi seafood on a bed of salad leaves served with pickled ginger tempura and soy dressing. The salad was … Continue reading Satsuki

Shige

During this time of the year, it is quite a challenge to find which restaurants are opened. (You won’t want to turn up unexpectedly to your favourite restaurant and find it closed! So be sure to check!) I stumbled upon Shige along Plain Street and thought that it would be good to give Shige a try, which was luckily opened on Christmas Eve. To start off, we had the Ikateri ($19.80), Agedashi Tofu ($9) and Gyu Tataki ($19.50). The Ikateri is a dish consisting of squid in sake soy sauce. The squid was fresh and the sake soy sauce complemented … Continue reading Shige

Dosukoi

From hearing about the famous ramen in Fremantle Markets, I have always wanted to try Dosukoi. Fortunately, there was another Dosukoi ramen store which has just been opened recently at Allendale Square in Perth CBD. (much nearer to home!) It’s a manga lovers heaven as you are greeted by shelves of manga while slurping your ramen noodles. It also feels like as if you are in one of those small restaurants in the middle of Tokyo! As I grew up reading manga and watching anime, I was able to spot a few of the manga which I am familiar with on … Continue reading Dosukoi

Sushia Izakaya and Bar

Sushia Izakaya and Bar was the latest installment at Brookfield Place this year and was new to the Perth dining scene. From hearing good reviews on Urbanspoon and through word of mouth, I have always wanted to give this place a try. So, I’ve organised a dinner to catch up with two of my friends who I have not seen in a while at Sushia. To start off, we had some edamame ($7) to share. The edamame was cooked perfectly with a hint of salt giving it a fresh, salty flavour. You can’t go wrong with ordering edamame as your … Continue reading Sushia Izakaya and Bar

Sado Island

On a warm Wednesday night, we decided to have dinner at Sado Island which is located in Claremont. This is my second visit to Sado Island after my first visit with my friends. But this time, I decided to bring mum and dad along. We arrived at the restaurant a bit late which was just after 8pm. There were only two tables occupied and it seems to be very quiet on a Wednesday night. Maybe most of the customers may have had their dinner earlier. For the Entree, we had the Kani Maki (Spider Roll) ($17) and Agedashi Tofu ($12). … Continue reading Sado Island

Nine Fine Food

Konnichiwa and G’day mate!  What do you get when you get a fusion of Japanese and Modern Australian flavours? The result lies in Nine Fine Food. Nine Fine Food offers fine, quality, modern Japanese with a twist of Modern Australian flavours. It was my friend, Clara who recommended and chose to dine at Nine Fine Food to celebrate her 21st. So just like my previous post, I have invited a few guest writers to be a part of this post. For our dinner, we decided to order the TokuToku (3 course) set menu ($53 pp). We were also given a few … Continue reading Nine Fine Food

Is Donburi and Meet Fresh

As I had a Sunday off from work, I decided to catch up with a few of my uni friends just before the semester begins. We decided to go to Is Donburi for lunch and this was my second time here. Is Donburi serves quality and value for money Japanese food from sushi, donburi to bento. When I arrived, Is Donburi was quite full as it was during the peak lunch hour but luckily my friend, Ernie was the first to arrive and got us a table. When everyone arrived, we had some time to settle down, catch up and … Continue reading Is Donburi and Meet Fresh

Shou Japanese Kitchen

One evening, mum and I decided to try Shou Japanese Kitchen in Greenwood for dinner from a recommendation of a friend. I have done some research on Urbanspoon and found that Shou has quite a good rating (96% likes it!) Apparently it is reasonably priced and the food is good. Well who doesn’t love that, considering most Perth restaurants are overpriced. Oh yeah, parking is not a hassle too! My advice to you is to try to make bookings for a table earlier as the restaurant is quite small and there’s only a few tables or you can also have … Continue reading Shou Japanese Kitchen
