One evening, mum and I decided to try Shou Japanese Kitchen in Greenwood for dinner from a recommendation of a friend. I have done some research on Urbanspoon and found that Shou has quite a good rating (96% likes it!) Apparently it is reasonably priced and the food is good. Well who doesn’t love that, considering most Perth restaurants are overpriced. Oh yeah, parking is not a hassle too!
My advice to you is to try to make bookings for a table earlier as the restaurant is quite small and there’s only a few tables or you can also have a choice to sit at the sushi bar. This reminds me of the Japanese restaurants I have been to during my trip to Tokyo and Hokkaido two years ago. Most of the Japanese restaurants there were quite small too. There was a bit of a wait for our food as the restaurant was quite busy but still it was bearable. While waiting for our food, we continue to sip our warm green tea on a cold night. For our starters, we ordered the edamame ($3.50) which are the green soybeans. (Yes my obsession with edamame continues!) The edamame had a hint of salt in it, making it a great starter.
Not long after finishing our edamame, our mains arrived. Mum had the Shoyu Ramen ($10) and I had the Shou Bento ($18.50). I had a taste test of the ramen and it was really tasty and delicious which reminds me of the ramen I had tried from one of the little ramen stalls in Tokyo. The Shoyu ramen is also in a big bowl so it is definitely worth the price as you will feel full.
The Shou Bento was also value for money for the ingredients and I felt full when I finished it. If you get this bento in Perth city, it will be priced much highly than this! The Shou Bento consists of agedashi tofu, salmon and tuna sashimi, tamago (japanese omelette) and a generous slab of teriyaki chicken. There is also a bit of edamame and beansprouts at the side too. The sashimi was very fresh and the teriyaki chicken was really tasty. The agedashi tofu was very soft when bitten into it. Overall, the Shou Bento is a winner for me!
Mum and I enjoyed dining at Shou Japanese Kitchen. I will highly recommend this hidden gem to you for quality Japanese food with a good price. We will definitely be back in the future to try their sashimi, sushi and tempura.
