Hylin

Carrying on from our previous foodie adventure at Harvest Espresso, Liju, Veng Li and I decided that our next foodie destination will be at Hylin, West Leederville. We have heard plenty of good reviews and have seen many photos of the food at Hylin on Instagram and yes, we were excited to try what Hylin has to offer. We arrived at 11.30am on a Wednesday and the cafe was not too busy (I heard that it can be busy on the weekends!). The atmosphere at Hylin is full of natural light and very airy with a lovely cool breeze coming … Continue reading Hylin

The Little Pantry

On a Saturday morning, we decide to head to The Little Pantry at Shenton Park for brunch. When we arrived, the cafe was busy but at the same time, we were also lucky to be able to find ourselves a table by the window. We started off our brunch by having coffee. Dad enjoyed his Latte and thought that it was smooth, aromatic and creamy. I had the Brioche French Toast ($15) which comprises of nutella, buttermilk caramel strawberries, vanilla ice cream and pistachio. The french toast was perfect – it was soft and fluffy inside and crisp on the … Continue reading The Little Pantry

May Street Larder

Last week, I was invited to the launch of May Street Larder in East Fremantle, a few days before its opening. Surrounded by glass windows, the place is full of light. It was new, bright and airy. May Street Larder is brought to you by the men behind Bib and Tucker; olympic swimmer Eamon Sullivan and Head Chef Scott Bridger. Apart from serving good food, May Street Larder has an in-house larder-style deli that stocks homemade preserves, pickles and cured meats while keeping on trend with raw, vegan and paleo food with a changing menu. May Street Larder also adopts … Continue reading May Street Larder

It’s a summer oasis at Koko Black

Recently, Koko Black launched their new summer oasis range of desserts and I was invited to come in to a salon and have a tasting of their latest desserts. I chose to go to Koko Black Claremont Quarter on a Friday afternoon for my afternoon sweet fix and to do some shopping after. Yes, I’ll admit I have a sweet tooth. FIrst up was the Raspberry Chocolate Dome ($10.50) which consists of milk chocolate and raspberry puree mousse with Madagascan vanilla custard and a liquid raspberry centre. How yum does that sound already! As delicious as it sounds, it was … Continue reading It’s a summer oasis at Koko Black

Le Monde and Kurtosh

To start off our last day in Sydney, we head down towards Surry Hills and had a little adventure around where we stayed for the past few days. After consulting Urbanspoon for some good cafes around Surry Hills, we decided to stop by at Le Monde for brunch. I had the Potato Rosti ($16) with smoked house bacon, spinach feta, poached egg, hollandaise sauce and pistachio. I enjoyed the potato rosti and thought that it was deliciously crispy on the outside and flavoursome. The pistachios gave a lovely crunch to the dish which complements well with the saltiness of the … Continue reading Le Monde and Kurtosh

Chez Dre

After our early morning adventure to Brighton Beach and an hour’s walk from Southern Cross Train Station, we arrived just at lunch time for our food adventure at Chez Dre. Tucked away in one of South Melbourne’s laneway is home to patisserie and cafe, Chez Dre, offering French-inspired sweets and savoury delights, pastries and a great selection of petits gateaux. I had the Eggs Royale ($18.50) which consists of smoked salmon, tobiko, yuzu-miso hollandaise and poached eggs on sourdough. The eggs were poached to perfection with orange liquid full of goodness oozing out from the eggs. Apart from the eggs, … Continue reading Chez Dre

The Grain Store

Melbourne is famous for its many little cafes – some hidden and some well known. On our very first day in Melbourne before embarking on our adventure to the Shrine of Rememberance and Royal Botanic Gardens, my two travel buddies, Ruiqi and Val and I head over to The Grain Store for a hearty breakfast to pump some fuel and give a kickstart to the morning. I had the the Chocolate French Toast with Pomegranate Puree ($20) from the Specials of the Day. The french toast was soft, fluffy and very light in chocolate flavour. The pomegranate puree was smooth … Continue reading The Grain Store

Sprolo

After another round of BodyCombat team teaching with Liju at Goodlife Cannington, we decided to head out for brunch with our friends to Sprolo at South Perth. Sprolo is one new cafe which has just recently been opened a few months ago and yes, they do specialise by having good coffee as they have an in house roaster too. When we arrived there on a Saturday during lunch hour, the cafe was busy but we were lucky enough to get a table for 8 in the end. As they always say, the more, the merrier. What exactly does Sprolo mean? … Continue reading Sprolo

It’s springtime at Harvest Espresso

After teaching BodyCombat at Goodlife Cannington, I decided to reward myself with a nice brunch at Harvest Espresso with two of my friends, Liju and Veng Li before heading home. So far, I have tried Harvest Espresso’s Autumn and Winter menu and the food was amazing. I was excited to see what Harvest Espresso has to offer for their Spring menu and I definitely have heard so many good things about it. We had the Beef Tongue ($21.50) which comes with grilled polenta, sauce gribiche, poached eggs, rye and mixed seed. The beef tongue was one of the highlights of … Continue reading It’s springtime at Harvest Espresso
