To me, Margaret River is foodie nation. Our recent trip to the Margaret River region for a wedding gave us the opportunity to visit restaurants, breweries and wineries. I have passed by Margaret River before but have never really stayed to check out the restaurants and wineries around. Likewise with Elwyn too. It was certainly a tough decision to plan and decide which restaurants to visit as we only had a 3 day weekend but in the end, one of the winery restaurants we chose to visit was Wills Domain.
Wills Domain is located overlooking the Gunyulgup Valley in the heart of Yallingup, Margaret River. We were seated at a table with views overlooking the fields of luscious vineyard. It was such a lovely day to sit back, soak in the picturesque view and indulge in beautiful food made from local, fresh produce.
We started with a small plate, the Grilled Yabbies with XO sauce ($30). The grilled yabbies were fresh and had a lovely grilled flavour. The XO sauce complemented the yabbies very well giving it a depth of aromatic flavours and textures. Yes we got our hands down and dirty to enjoy the yabbies. Truly finger licking good.
For our large plates, we had the rainbow trout with kohlrabi, fennel and apple yoghurt ($37). With a crispy skin, the rainbow trout had a burst of fresh and sweet flavours. It was cooked to perfection. The kohlrabi, fennel and apple yoghurt added a punch of fresh flavours to the rainbow trout.
We also shared a pork belly with grilled baby gem, boudin noir and rhubarb chutney ($39). The pork belly at Wills Domain was done perfectly. It was so juicy and tender, finished with a crispy skin on top. The rhubarb chutney added a hint of sweetness to the pork belly.
I have been always eyeing on the snickers dessert at Wills Domain. For dessert, we had the Snickers ($18) which comprised of salted caramel, milk chocolate, peanut glace and honey ice cream. If you are a snickers fan, this dessert definitely screams and shouts SNICKERS! It was so decadent and indulgent. A perfect finish to our amazing lunch at Wills Domain.
Overall, we really enjoyed our winery lunch at Wills Domain. We also thought that the service was excellent and the food was served with quality. If you can’t decide what to eat at Wills Domain, there’s also the Feast Menu priced at $65 per person which is a series of courses designed for the table to share, served ‘Feast style’. Did you also know that Wills Domain was Regional Restaurant of the Year in 2017? Yes, Wills Domain is one that is definitely worth a visit.
