Located in the heart of Subiaco along Rokeby Road is Funtastico. Funtastico is a local Subi gem which has been around in the dining scene for a long time specialising in Italian comfort food.
On a Thursday evening, Nat from iMasticate and I had dinner at Funtastico and for a Thursday evening, the restaurant was buzzing. As the weather was quite chilly, it made the perfect night for having Italian food.
We had the Taglierini e Crab which comprises of blue swimmer crab, cherry tomato and chilli in shellfish sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly to al dente and there was an abundance of crab meat in sight. It’s delicious with each twirl of pasta exhibiting a great flavour of spice, flavourful shellfish sauce and juicy burst in your mouth cherry tomato. Simply fantastic and fabulous!
We also shared the Saltimbocca which are veal medallions, prosciutto, zucchini rosti, white wine & sage sauce. The veal medallions were cooked well to tender and the white wine and sage sauce gave a lovely flavour to the dish, complementing the veal medallions very well. . The zucchini rosti gave a hint of crunchy textures. A very scrumptious dish overall!
My parents on another table had the Pesce Del Giorno/Fish of the Day which was the Grilled Red Snapper and Spaghetti Marinara al Cartoccio. The Spaghetti Marinara at Funtastico is truly unique. Yes, there are fish, calamari, prawns, scallops & mussels with napoletana sauce but Funtastico’s Spaghetti Marinara is also baked and served in a “cartouche” which makes it one of its kind in Perth. My dad’s vote? Best Spaghetti Marinara in Perth!
For desserts, Nat and I had the Tiramisu and Creme Brulee. The Tiramisu was soft in texture and had a lovely flavour of coffee. The Creme Brulee was as delightful. Ah the joys of breaking the caramel layer of a Creme Brulee! The Italian custard was so smooth with an added crunch from the caramelised layer.
We had an enjoyable dining experience at Funtastico. The service was excellent and the staff made us felt welcome. Funtastico would be a place that my parents and I will come back to. In fact, my parents had actually gone back for dinner at Funtastico recently! For fun and fantastic Italian food, Funtastico is a must!
