If you have enjoyed the baos from What the Bao!, I have great news for you. If you are living close to the city or work in the city, then you are in luck. What the Bao! has just opened their second store in the heart of Perth CBD at Shafto Lane.

The bao buns at What the Bao are soft and pillowy and they are filled with crispy, crunchy fillings such as fried chicken or soft shell crab. During our visit on a Friday evening, we had the Roasted Duck, Singapore Chilli Soft Shell Crab, Thai Sweet Chilli Fish and Hong Kong Char Siu.

My favourite was the roasted duck and singapore chilli soft shell crab. The roasted duck and soft shell crab are the most popular baos at What the Bao!. The roasted duck bao is bursting full of flavour from the tender duck to the sweetness of the hoisin sauce. If you love it crispy and crunchy, the Singapore Chilli Soft Shell Crab is perfect for you. There’s a slight zing and spice to it which definitely shouts Singapore Chilli Soft Shell Crab!

The Thai Sweet Chilli Fish and Hong Kong Char Siu was as scrumptious too! We loved the freshness of the fish and the slight sweetness and spice of the sweet chilli mayo. There’s also a crunch in between every bite. The Hong Kong Char Siu was quite delicious which complements well with the soft texture of the bao. I loved the addition of the braised lotus roots in the Hong Kong Char Siu bao and also the crunch from the crushed peanuts.

What the Bao! at Shafto Lane is open everyday from Monday to Saturday from 11am onwards. There is also a promotion at the moment where you save $2 when you buy 3 baos and $4 when you buy 6.
