Attention all ramen lovers in Perth! There’s a new ramen joint in the Perth ramen scene!
Taking over the old Arigataya store in the heart of Northbridge is Oceans Ramen and Donburi Bar, located along Roe Street. On a Friday evening, Elwyn and I initially had planned to head to Authentic Bites Dumpling House for dinner. As we drove along Roe Street, I spotted a new ramen joint and we changed our minds from dumplings to ramen.
When we first walked into Oceans, we were immediately greeted enthusiastically with an “Irrashaimase!”. The restaurant was not too busy when we arrived with only two occupied tables. We were also told by the waitress that they had just opened on that day and we were one of the first few customers to visit the new ramen bar.
I had the Aburi Chashu Ramen ($17) which comprises of a rich pork based soup topped with grilled and roasted pork or chicken, bean sprouts, leek, spring onion, bamboo shoots, dried black mushroom, edible printed seaweed and red pickled ginger. I added a seasoned boiled egg on top for $1.50. The pork based broth was rich and had a great depth of flavour. I really enjoyed the tasty aburi chashu pork as it had a lovely smoky flavour with a slight crunch around the edges. Delicious.
Elwyn had the spare rib ramen ($19). At Oceans, there are limited bowls of spare rib ramen in a day so it’s best to get in early if you want to give the spare rib ramen a go! Just like my aburi chashu ramen, the pork broth was very flavoursome. The spare rib was very succulent and juicy complementing well with the flavourful pork broth.
When you finish your bowl of ramen (Yes, that including the soup!), you will see a “Thank You!” at the bottom of the bowl. Love it!
Oceans Ramen is well worth a visit as their speciality is ramen. If you don’t feel like ramen, there’s also Donburi, Baos and Japanese Curry to choose from. It’s great to see more ramen joints opening up around Perth.
