If you love your meat, you are in for a treat.

Located in the heart of Mount Lawley at Mary Street Piazza is Side Door BBQ.  The address may say that it’s on Beaufort Street but it’s actually tucked around the corner of Mary Street right opposite Mary Street Bakery. Side Door BBQ offers all things American Southern barbeque. Think smoked brisket and smoky barbeque ribs.

On a weeknight, we went on a triple date with our dining partners to Side Door BBQ after having our eye on the platter for two on Instagram. Before we indulged in our meat platter, we were offered a complimentary spiced caramel popcorn which was a delight. We shared a Side Door BBQ Platter for four ($130) which comprised of brisket, pork ribs, beef rib, chicken wings, cream corn, cornbread, mac and cheese, pork belly lollipops, jalapeno sausage coleslaw and pickled slaw. Having the platter was a good opportunity to sample a good variety of food from the menu. Also, on our table, there were homemade sauces to complement our food – Tomato, BBQ, Spicy BBQ and Espresso BBQ.

The platter was full of meatylicious goodness but the star from our platter would have to be the pork belly lollipops. It’s crispy, juicy and tender that it melts in your mouth complementing well with the sweet, tangy flavours from the sauce. The beef and pork ribs were delicious and the meat fell off the bone easily. For the sides, the mac and cheese and creamed corn was rich in flavour and bursting full of cheesiness. As a lighter side dish, the slaws were tasty and fresh in flavour.

Although we shared the platter for four among the six of us, in the end, the meats did fill up our tummies. The service was excellent – friendly, welcoming and attentive. It’s really great to see an authentic American barbeque joint in Mount Lawley. Now I know where to go if I am craving for a good American barbeque. I say bring on the meat at Side Door BBQ!
