Just one week after I was out of hospital, Elwyn decided that we should head out for dinner at Mae Khong Thai. This was my first visit but it was Elwyn’s second visit as he had caught up with friends over dinner at Mae Khong Thai just a few days before. Mae Khong Thai is located in the heart of Bedford and is very popular among Bedford locals. The menu at Mae Khong Thai comprises of a mixture and variety of Thai and Cambodian dishes.
To start off, we shared a Pandan Chicken ($9.90) which consists of marinated chicken pieces wrapped in pandan leaves steamed and deep fried served with sweet chilli sauce. One of my favourite Thai dishes is actually Pandan Chicken. The pandan chicken at Mae Khong Thai is flavoursome with a lovely aroma from the pandan leaves. It’s moist and juicy.
For our mains, we had the Chu Chee Lamb ($25.90). The Chu Chee coconut sauce is rich, thick and creamy, complementing well with the tenderness of the lamb. It was a scrumptious and hearty dish.
We also shared the Cambodian Haw Mok Fish ($25.90). Like the Chu Chee Lamb, the sauce was rich in flavour and very creamy and the fish was cooked to perfection. It was such a tasty dish that you would definitely be asking for a second helping of rice!
The food at Mae Khong Thai is bursting full of authentic Thai and Cambodian flavours which was very satisfying for me (especially being in hospital for five days!). I had my eye on the red duck curry which was on the house specials but unfortunately on that night, I had to adhere to strict dietary requirements. That means, round two at Mae Khong Thai is definitely in order! Mae Khong Thai is an authentic hidden gem that is worth a visit.
