Healthy and wholesome Paleo meals with Paleo Meals Direct

Over the past few years, we have seen a shift in trend to living healthier lives by engaging in exercise and changing our diet and the foods we eat. Recently, we were sent some Paleo meals by Paleo Meals Direct. Also known as the Caveman diet, the Paleo diet follows the diet eaten by humans during the Paleolithic era, before the advent of agriculture.

The people behind Paleo Meals Direct is Nesh and Nigel. Paleo Meals Direct was born when Nesh and Nigel realised that optimum mental and physical health were important for a good balance in career and life. With a vision for growing a sustainable nutritious future, Nesh and Nigel collaborated with Crossfit fanatic and Chef Paolo Butto to build a tribe focused on nutritious whole foods for the larger community.

All paleo friendly meals by Paleo Meals Direct are nutrient dense with quality ingredients used and are free of grains, sugar, dairy, soy and preservatives. Our first Paleo meals we had were the Bratwurst Sausage and Sweet Potato Mash and the Cajun Braised Beef. Organic beef is one of the core ingredients used in the Bratwurst Sausage. It had a great flavour with a lovely blend of spices with the perfect sweet potato mash. For the Cajun Braised Beef, it was delicious, bursting with flavours and rich in protein.

I had the Orange Lemon Chicken and Vegetables for the second day. Compared to the Bratwurst Sausage and Cajun Braised Beef, the chicken is much lighter in texture but had a great flavour from herbs such as basil, oregano, parsley, rosemary and thyme. I could also taste the slight hint of sweetness and acidity from the lemon giving it a refreshing taste on the palate. This meal is perfect for fat loss, muscle building and is auto-immune protocol friendly, low FODMAP and whole 30 friendly.

What exactly is auto-immune protocol friendly and Low Fodmap protocol you may ask? It is basically to help reduce inflammation in the intestines and heal the immune system by eliminating certain foods. The auto-immune protocol friendly products have no nuts, seeds, eggs or nightshades. It is a diet suitable and recommended for anyone having problems with their thyroid gland, adrenal fatigue or those suffering from auto-immune conditions such as Hashimoto’s Disease. On the otherhand, a low Fodmap protocol means limiting the intake of dietary FODMAPS (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols). Perfect to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other digestive issues. If you haven’t heard of the Whole 30 Diet, it is a diet comprising  of meat, seafood, eggs, tons of vegetables, some fruit, and plenty of good fats from fruits, oils, nuts and seeds. So this means that the meal is free of nasties such as sugar, gluten, grain, alcohol, legume, dairy and preservatives.

For day three of our Paleo lunch we had the Cashew Satay Chicken and Chipotle Pork and Roast Vegetables. The cashew satay chicken is creamy in flavour from the coconut cream and coconut flour. You could also taste the nuttiness of the cashew in this dish too. If you like to spice it up, the Chipotle Pork and Roast Vegetables is for you. There’s a subtle hint of spice from the chipotle chilli and paprika on the tender pork.

So far, the Moroccan Lamb Stew was one of our favourites. It’s so hearty and packed full of punchy flavours from the tomato based stew and the concoction of lovely fragrant spices such as star anise, clove and cumin. The Argentinian Beef and Vegetables did not fall too far behind comprising of lean organic grass fed beef which makes a perfect meal for fat loss and muscle building.

For our last paleo meal, we had the Thai Green Curry. Comprising of vegetables such as zucchini, eggplant, carrot and celery, the Thai Green Curry is suitable if losing fat is your health goal. Like the Cashew Satay Chicken, the Thai Green Curry is creamy in texture. The addition of lemongrass, kaffir lime and green chilli to the coconut based curry adds a great Thai flavour to the meal.

Overall, we really enjoyed our meals from Paleo Meals Direct. What I liked is that on each packaging of the meal, there are meal benefits stated to cater for your health and training goals whether it is for fat loss or a training athlete. While coping with a fast paced and busy lifestyle, the meals did save us a lot of time in preparing for our lunches. Not only that, it did fuelled us well for teaching our BODYCOMBAT classes or participating in other group fitness and training sessions.
