Malaysian Food Adventures #10: Loke Yun Chicken Rice

At Loke Yun, glorious and tender chicken and fluffy rice awaits you.

Chicken Rice is a favourite among Malaysians. Who does not love Chicken Rice?  One of the longest running Chicken Rice restaurant in KL is Loke Yun. The chicken in Loke Yun is no ordinary chicken. The chicken used in Loke Yun is “Choy Yin Gai” which is known as farmed chicken. Take a look at the skin and you will see a shade of brilliant yellow. Smooth, shiny and silky. Topped with shallots and a drizzle of soy-sauce, it adds some flavour to the chicken at Loke Yun. The chicken meat is firm but it is juicy and tender. Very lovely indeed.

Their chili sauce and mashed ginger are homemade too. A great complement with the chicken rice, which will also depend on your personal taste preference. For me, I like my chicken rice with chili sauce. What is Chicken Rice without the rice? Let’s not forget the rice, an essential component in completing the chicken rice dish. At Loke Yun, the rice is fragrant and fluffy. A perfect combination with the chicken.

It’s a feast! There’s a complimentary soup when you order the chicken rice too!

We also ordered some Chicken Intestines and Chicken Gizzard, Bean Sprouts and Fish Ball Soup as a side dish. I am not a big fan of intestines but this chicken intestine dish is really good. It had a crunchy and springy texture to the lightly boiled chicken intestines. Yes, it can be addictive. The bean sprouts are fresh and tasty. A great side dish to the chicken rice. The Fish Ball Soup was also delicious. It is not your ordinary fish ball as there is a chicken filling in the fish ball.

I think Loke Yun Chicken Rice is still a winner for me and I always find myself coming back to Loke Yun when I am back in Kuala Lumpur. It is definitely worth a visit to Loke Yun if you want to have an authentic and a sensational chicken rice.
